Project Overview
On July 30th, 2017, the learning management system for BYU-Idaho, Brightspace, received a new visual update. The visual format of the system (I-Learn) was simplified for easier use and navigation and was adapted to be mobile-responsive. The functionality and structure of Brightspace remained largely the same. Students could now access I-Learn on their tablets and phones and could take tests and finish assignments on their phones, something that wasn’t possible before.
A new page on the BYU-Idaho website was created to inform both students and faculty of this change and provide them with videos and tutorials on how to navigate the update and new format. Two versions of the content were written; one page for the students and how this affected them, and one for the faculty and how this would affect their teaching. We as a team also created content for before the update, using future-tense language, and one for after the update, using past-tense language. Along with updating the website, emails were sent during the summer and before the start of the fall semester to inform faculty and students about the update. CMS ads also were used on the web page and on-campus TVs to inform users about the update as much as possible.
